Advanced ELD/L & L (Period 1, 3)

Course Description

Dear Parents,

Welcome!  This year, we will have four different levels of ELD in our classroom.  Because Ortho has so few ELD students, we have designed a program based on the California ELD standards that provides opportunities for our students to develop their skills in English.

A primary focus of our classes this year involves speaking English in academic settings.  We will learn and practice protocols for engaging in classroom conversation that should benefit our students in all of their other content classes this year.

Our goal is to prepare students to move students out of ELD classes as quickly as possible.  We will practice Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening in order to prepare for the state assessments in English.  We will utilize adaptive reading programs like Read Theory to help raise students' reading levels, and we will practice academic analysis, discussion, and writing to prepare for success across curriculum.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.  I. or someone else at the school will get back to you quickly.
